Thelma C. Welch Damewood, age 95, passed away on September 28, 2004 in North Fort Meyers, Florida. Thelma was born November 27, 1908 to Andrew and Sarah (Nicol) Welch of Brown City, Michigan.
Thelma graduated from the Detroit Business Institute in 1926 and started her first job at Dresden Brick Company in Detroit as an office secretary and bookkeeper until the company failed in 1920 during the depression. She then worked at Cadillac Oil Company in Detroit until 1945 when she moved to Miami Florida. She worked for Miami Soap Company and the Jack Cameron Interior Decorator until 1952. She then started her own business in Real Estate becoming a successful executive in a large business bearing her name.
Thelma accomplished many high achievements. She was president of the Pilot Club of Miami; past president of Hialeah-Miami Springs Business and Professional Woman's Club; past director of Florida Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs; past president of Hialeah Woman's Club; chairman of public relations committee in Hialeah-Miami Springs Chamber of Commerce; member of Miami-Dade County Chamber of Commerce; secretary of Hialeah Board of Realtors; and past president and originator of Wesleyan Service Guild at the First Methodist Church of Hialeah. She was honored by her church as its Lay Leader of the Annual Florida UM Conference.
Thelma enjoyed traveling around the world. She visited China, Japan, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland, Ireland and most of Europe including Paris, Rome, Venice, Italy and Bavarian Alps. She also went on cruises to multiple destinations.
Thelma married George W. Damewood, a marine, on February 20, 1954 and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded by 3 brothers; Theodore, Levi and Andrew Welch.

She is survived by her sister Marlene (Lewis) Hughes of Brown City, Michigan, and Maryann (William) Sealey of Utica, Michigan and 19 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

A gathering for family and friends will be held Friday, October 1, 2004 at Carman Funeral Home in Brown City. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on  Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 1:00 p.m.
