Raymond H. "Oakie" Martin, age 87 of Brown City died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 in Lapeer, Michigan. He was born November 21, 1915 in Brewer, Oklahoma to Earl and Minnie (Sanchez) Martin. He married Violet Bernice Lambson in February in 1942 in Reno, Nevada. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He was a truck driver and also worked construction building dams and roads and later as a self-employed cement finisher. He was a member of the Brown City VFW.

Raymond is survived by 4 children: Raymond Martin, Vancouver Washington, Donald (Linda) Martin, Brown City, Michigan, Donna (David) Willing, Imlay City, Michigan and Doris (Ed) Smith, Brown City, Michigan. 9 grandchildren: Sandy, Tammy, Ray, Donnie, Suzanne, Tara, Jennifer, Cristie and Ryan, several great-grandchildren, 2 brothers: Earl and Arthur Martin and 3 sisters: Agnes Edmond, Ruth Wise and Midge Sandoval.

He was preceded in death by wife Violet, a sister Minnie Hickman and a brother Wallace Martin.

A visitation will be Wednesday, January 15, 2003 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, January 16, 2003 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Carman Funeral Home in Brown City, Michigan. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
