
James R. Smith, age 69, of Melvin, died July 29, 2003 at his home. He was born November 24, 1933 in McGregor, Michigan to Thomas and Emily Smith. He married Berry Jean Owens on August 25, 1956.
He was a construction worker for many years; he worked for Toebe & Owens & Stroman. He later drove truck for Lear in Marlette, Michigan. He also was a beef and hog farmer.
James is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Jean Smith, 4 children: Thomas (Kim) Smith, Brown City, Michigan, John (Ronda) Smith, Lake Michigan, Joann (Keven) Hale, Brown City, Michigan, and Richard Smith, Melvin, Michigan; 13 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; 4 sisters: Betsy Main, Hazel Howard, Eva Nichol, Dorothy Turner; 2 brothers: William and Bernard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin boys, and 2 sisters, Lenora Welch and Margret Nichol.
A visitation will be in Carman Funeral Home in Brown City, Michigan on Thursday, July 31, 2003 from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, August 1, 2003, at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
