
Bert M. Schaefer, age 78, of Imlay City, Michigan passed away Monday, August 16, 2004 at Brian House Hospice Center in Davison, Michigan after a short illness with cancer. He was born March 10, 1926 in Dougherty, Iowa and was one of five children of Albert and Pearl Schaefer.
He is survived by his loving companion of 23 years Vera Willkins, sons: Bob (Elaine) Schaefer, John (Sue) Schaefer, Ron (Pattie) Schaefer and Tom (Jill) Schaefer all of Capac, Michigan, daughters; Lou of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Chris (Steve) Mayer of Capac, Michigan, 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, brother; Fred of California and special niece Jerrylyn (Galen) Brinkman of Iowa, several nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
Bert retired from the Hamill Manufacturing Division of the
Firestone Corporation after many years.
Bert proudly served his country in the Army 81st Airborne during World War II
and was awarded two Purple Hears for his contribution.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the VFW and the American
Legion.
Bert loved to tinker in his garage inventing gadgets, shop at t he dollar
stores, visit with friends at the Eagles, was an avid reader of Old West novels
and was most proud of his collection of hundreds of model cars. His
light-hearted humor and love of life will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Visitation with family to share memories and honor his life will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004 at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City, Michigan. Internment of ashes will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Any one wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the Schaefer family.
