
Karen Marie Smith, age 54, of Attica,
Michigan, passed away suddenly Friday, October 8, 2004 at her home. Karen
was born November 18, 1949 in Flint, Michigan, a daughter of Fred and Doris
(Miller) McHugh. She grew up in the Hadley, Michigan area. She graduated from
Lapeer High School in the Class of 1968. She was married to Glenn LaVern Smith
on August 16, 1969 in Attica, Michigan.
She had worked for Vlasics in Imlay City, Michigan, Bishop Airport in Flint,
Michigan, Hamill Seat Belt Manufacturing, Imlay City, Michigan. Howell
Industries in Lapeer, Michigan and she also ran a foster care home out of her
own home. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Imlay City V.F.W. Post
2492, the Imlay City Athletic Boosters, the Imlay City Boy's Baseball
Association, North Branch American Legion Auxiliary Post # 457, a Press
Representative for the Floral City Lions Club in Floral City, Florida, the
Ladies Noble's Club in Citrus, Florida, clan # 51 hillbilly Ladies in Flint,
Michigan, the Citrus County Red Hat Society, Volunteer for the Citrus County
Parks and Recreation Department and she was a Gold Star Mother (her brother was
killed in action during the Vietnam War).
Surviving are her husband: Glenn L. Smith of Attica, Michigan, a foster daughter: Tammy Patton of Lapeer, Michigan, her mother-in-law: Florence Smith of Lum, Michigan, sisters: Barbara (William) smith of Attica, Michigan, Sue Ann (Elmer) Bachelor of Columbiaville, Michigan, brothers: Greg (Rose) McHugh of Hadley, Michigan and Gary McHugh of Lapeer, Michigan. She is also survived by several brothers - and sisters-in-law and by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her only son: Glenn L. Smith II in 1980, and by her parents: Fred and Doris McHugh.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2004 at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home, 225 N. Main, Imlay City, Michigan. Pastor David Pratt of the Snover United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Arcadia Township Cemetery, Lum, Michigan.
Friends may call at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City, Michigan where the family will be present from 6-9 pm Saturday, October 9, 2004 and 1-5 and 6-9 pm Sunday, October 10, 2004.
