Lawrence G. Chappel, age 82, life long resident of Marlette, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at his home.
He was born September 9, 1921 in Clifford, Michigan son to the late Simon and Gladys (McAllister) Chappel.
He married Katherine (Jane) Bailey June 11, 1942 in Caro, Michigan.
He serviced his country in the U.S. Army during WWII 1942 -1945 in Europe, where he fought in the D-Day invasion.
Mr. Chappel was Post Master in Marlette for 30 years, retiring in 1982 and also owned and operated the Marlette Motel from 1954 to 1969.
He was a member of the Marlette First Presbyterian Church, Marlette VFW Post 4837, Marlette Area Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Post Masters Association, and was on the Marlette School Board for 12 years.
He was one of the founders of the Marlette Little League program.
Lawrence enjoyed hunting, baseball, carpentry work and most of all his family.

He is survived by his wife Katherine (Jane) Chappel of Marlette, Michigan, four sons, Ronald and Susan Chappel of Gaylord, Michigan, Paul and Suzanne Chappel of Cass City, Michigan, Glenn and Cyndi Chappel of Marlette, Michigan, Rodney Chappel and Girl Friend Donna Keys of Kingston, Michigan, five brothers, Donald Chappel of Clifford, Michigan, Albert and Nancy Chappel of Los Vegas, Nevada, Richard and Janet Chappel of West Branch, Michigan, William and Marilyn Chappel of Elkton, Michigan, Robert and Grace Chappel of Marlette, Michigan, two sisters Ruby Grow of Kingston, Michigan, Mary and Duane Owen of Kingston, Michigan, nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Joann, Chris, Ashlie, Amanda, Nick, Matthew, Belle and Bobbie Jean, one great grand daughter Makenzie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Frances, Haven, Garth Chappel, sister, Agnes Moyer and Ruth Fishell.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at the Marlette First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Kenneth Parker officiating.
Burial will be in the Marlette Cemetery in Marlette, Michigan.
Donations may be given the Marlette First Presbyterian Church, Marlette V.F.W. or United Hospice  Service.
Casket bearers - Terry Coupar, Larry Chappel, Bob Chappel, Jim Chappel, Chris Chappel, Nick Chappel and John Lambert.
Visitation will be held at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette on Thursday, September 18, 2003 from 7pm to 9 pm and Friday, September 19, 2003 from 4pm to 9pm.
