Lloyd Caldwell, age 81, of North Branch, died Thursday, May 22, 2003 at his home. Lloyd was born November 13, 1921, in North Branch Township, Michigan, to William and Minnie (Schuenman) Caldwell. He married Thelma Jean Hodges at North Branch United Methodist Church, North Branch, Michigan, on November 3, 1945.

Lloyd served his country in the Army during WWII. When Lloyd was a young man he would fly an airplane down from Houghton Lake, Michigan to visit his parents. Lloyd enjoyed judging for horse shows and training horses. He and Orville Brown trained horses for Mackinaw Island. He was a member of the Michigan Draft Horse Association and the Michigan Boat Association. Lloyd would go for drives in the country, looking at all the wildlife. When Lloyd's health permitted he liked to deer hunt, go fishing and camping. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to him.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Jean; daughters, Donna (Lynn) Gates and Loraine (James) Osborne; sons, Bill (Kim) of North Branch, Michigan, and Dan of North Branch, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Ethel of North Branch, Michigan and Betty of Sterling Heights; brother, Carl of North Branch, 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; many nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Sexton; brother-in-law, Tony Sexton; brothers, Glenn and Everette Caldwell.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Hutchinson officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, North Branch, Michigan.
